Boom named USA Softball Male Player of the Year

On January 21, Chad Boom was bestowed with the highest honor a male fastpitch softball player can receive when he received the Male Softball Player of the Year Award from the ASA and USA Softball.  Boom, a Barnesville resident and native of Ellsworth, was given the honor along with Female recipient Lisa Fernandez.  As a recipient of this honor, Boom’s name has been submitted to the United States Olympic Committee as a nominee for its 2004 Sports Man of the Year.

Boom was chosen for the honor based on his performance throughout the last year, which based on his play at the XI ISF World Championship last January and February in Christchurch, New Zealand.

He led Team USA in all offensive categories and led the entire tournament with 8 RBI.

Boom is scheduled to return to the diamond this summer after taking last year off after a work-related injury for him to sit out the season.

“Being named USA Player of Year is the highest honor I have ever been awarded,” says Boom.  “It makes all the hard work, long nights driving back home from tournaments, time spent away from the family more acceptable.  It ranks highly in my softball career.”
